Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Whatever’s Amazing for YOU!

In 2014 Kaleidoscope Spirit is focusing on Creativity ~ the spark, the flow, the perspiration, the hell yes, the hang-ups, the re-ignitions, the power of imperfection and nerve-wracking joy of sharing your work.

What are your dreams for this year and (really) the next 5 years of your life?  Where do you want to be?  What do you want to be admiring & saying, “I’m so happy I finally did THAT!”…?

Whether it’s a book, a series of paintings, creating a new business or volunteer group, maybe knitting a clothing line for your cat or getting the band back together – I will bet money there is something tugging at your soul wanting to be expressed.

Are you one of those people who know exactly what I’m writing about?  It’s the fantasy thing you would do if you won the lottery.  For some it may be the thing you already do when you get home from your “real” job.  Great!  Grab that truth and don’t let go.

The most important thing you can do right now is fan that flame and create support around your dreams.  Like keeping a fire alive ~ you will need air, earth

and water to help you!

We’ll be digging into each of these points more in coming months, but what I really want to get across now is that you will need to open up and lock down in new ways for your dreams to become reality.

1 – Water ~Support.  As a creator you will experience many depths and someone who will help bring you back to the surface or offer a buoyant point of view is invaluable: an accountability buddy, a writing group, a mentor, a coach ~ someone or some group who wants to see you succeed.  This has to be someone who believes in possibilities.

2 – Earth ~ Schedule your creative time.  Inspiration is a fleeting muse.  If you want to get things done, you need to give yourself the space and time to be creative and do NOT count on the heat of inspiration to carry you through every moment.  You will be amazed at what one to two hour increments can accomplish when you’re focused.  Don’t feel like you need to have a spare 8 hours!  And if you find yourself cancelling on your creative time?  Put $20 in a jar or have way to acknowledge that you owe yourself the space to create!

3 – Air ~Exposure.  Whether you have an artistic intent or want to branch out and create your own business, it’s important to come up for air.  Exposing yourself to other creative people by going to galleries, reading something new and yummy or getting out in nature will help you stay calibrated to creativity.  This point is not about taking more classes or getting lost in the thought that others are “further” along than you!  It’s about surrounding yourself in creative space even when you are not producing.

With an open mind and open heart for all of your dreams  ~

Kim
