Abundant Summer Solstice

*Happy Summer Solstice*

It’s important to take some time today outside and be in the sunlight!  Feel the the Sun’s warmth and light upon your skin and it’s rays going deeply into your bones.  Did you know it takes approximately 8 minutes and 20 seconds for light on the surface of the Sun to reach us on Earth?

A simple meditation today could be sitting outdoors with your eyes closed in the sunlight and opening up your third chakra, the Solar Plexus – which is considered our Inner Sun.  Allow these two suns to calibrate and renew your energy.

Today is a fantastic day for rejuvenation and nourishment.  There are countless ways to honor this!  It’s as simple as eating fresh food, dancing on the beach, playing with friends or taking a long hike.  Oh, and laughter!  Even if you are enjoying today with your own Divine company, find time to laugh ~ it’s medicine for your Spirit.

Summer is a time of ripening.  All of the intentions we put forth in Winter took root and sprouted in the Spring.  They are now the fruit of your dreams need to ripen.  While Summer is an easy time to create, we do not need to be forceful… everything has already been set into motion.  Just as you know to pass by those early blackberries for a few more weeks… allow your dreams at this time to enlarge and ripen.

To support all of you busy Dreamers and Creatives, I’m launching Summer School for Your Soul ~ a 5 week program designed to nourish your inner world.  It will begin on July 15 and I’ll be sending out sign up details soon!

The relationship between the Sun and the Earth is the foundation for life as we know it.  We are far enough away that our oceans remain liquid and do not freeze, nor dry up from being too close.  The early radioactive gases have given way to beauty almost beyond belief.  That we get to be a part of this world where a whale, a chamomile flower and a lion all exist together is a magnificent blessing!

Embarrassment as Your Muse

Squirming, blushing, dry mouth, wet palms, shrinking or running away?  Feeling caught, mis-understood or outright little leads to that head to toe feeling of embarrassment.  After a few incidents in childhood, we’ll do almost ANYTHING to avoid feeling embarrassed!

Have you ever taken the time to examine all of the things you’ve learned from avoiding embarrassment?  For some of us it can be as simple as a social cue like making a better effort at remembering people’s names.  Or you may have been driven into your chosen field by wanting to appear cool, genius-y or bad-ass.

Avoiding embarrassment also leads us to over-think how we express ourselves.

Have you ever held back your ideas, solutions, or visions?  Have you ever held back standing up for yourself, embarrassed that you’ll appear selfish or (worse) needy?  Have you ever held back that simple sentence that you’re into someone?

If we avoid embarrassment, too often we are limiting our expression and what makes us unique.  We miss out what happens after the moment we say what we mean, shutting a door before we even glance at what’s on the other side.  Hey, I’ll agree with you – on the other side there could be rejection, dismissiveness, laughter, confusion or a verbal sliming.  Yet, there also MAY be agreement, excitement, a deeper debate, recognition or a smile.

The more we expose and express our core, the quicker we see results, more doors open and (I promise) it gets easier to go with your instincts.  And that’s what embarrassment can help you move towards.

If the idea of publishing a short story makes you feel shy or embarrassed – head in that direction.  You’ve just been tipped off that you’re afraid to expose your true self.

The Muse of Embarrassment can be a quiet, blushing guide who shows you the places you’re willing to cull who you are.  With a shaking hand she’s showing you the precise choice  – open up or turn away.  Every time it’s up to you.

Now there are a lot of coaches who will tell you that you can’t make a wrong choice.  It’s the best you can do that day.  I don’t see it that way.   I see that we habituate ourselves into capping off our expression, shutting off the things that TURN US ON.

If expression means something to you, if living out your dreams pulls at your heart than you have to do some things that lie on the other side of embarrassment.  You’ll have to feel your neck to turn to fire, swallow against saying, “I’m sorry”, “I didn’t really mean that” or “Well, it was just my first erotic novel”.

Opening up to creating and true expression, for many of us, is a practice.  We need to make a habit of expression to thwart the habit of shutting down.  With practice the Muse of Embarrassment may leave our side, able to drift off and watch over our lives with a sense of a job well done.  Like all Muses, she wants to help as many people as possible.

So here’s the deal.  This is on my mind because I’m currently doing something that really embarrasses me!  I’m recording a collection of guided meditations and have to hear my own voice over and over.  It’s like looking at my driver’s licenses and freshman year high school photo again and again.  Plus, I have the insane idea that these recordings will help people.  Yet clients ask all of the time, “would you make me a recording that I can listen to?”  And while it feels sometimes like a basket of eels is exploding from my chest… my answer is “Yes”.  I recognize that by putting off hearing my voice I’m also putting off helping more people and throwing a blanket over my expression.  So, I’m turning towards my embarrassment and the Muse of Embarrassment and I are learning Garage Band.

It’s time to love up your own sweaty palms!  Move towards that heat and that shyness…. discover what is on the other side.  Let your magic out ~

The Fire of Creativity ~ Is This Your Year?

Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Whatever’s Amazing for YOU!

In 2014 Kaleidoscope Spirit is focusing on Creativity ~ the spark, the flow, the perspiration, the hell yes, the hang-ups, the re-ignitions, the power of imperfection and nerve-wracking joy of sharing your work.

What are your dreams for this year and (really) the next 5 years of your life?  Where do you want to be?  What do you want to be admiring & saying, “I’m so happy I finally did THAT!”…?

Whether it’s a book, a series of paintings, creating a new business or volunteer group, maybe knitting a clothing line for your cat or getting the band back together – I will bet money there is something tugging at your soul wanting to be expressed.

Are you one of those people who know exactly what I’m writing about?  It’s the fantasy thing you would do if you won the lottery.  For some it may be the thing you already do when you get home from your “real” job.  Great!  Grab that truth and don’t let go.

The most important thing you can do right now is fan that flame and create support around your dreams.  Like keeping a fire alive ~ you will need air, earth

and water to help you!

We’ll be digging into each of these points more in coming months, but what I really want to get across now is that you will need to open up and lock down in new ways for your dreams to become reality

1 – Water ~Support.  As a creator you will experience many depths and someone who will help bring you back to the surface or offer a buoyant point of view is invaluable: an accountability buddy, a writing group, a mentor, a coach ~ someone or some group who wants to see you succeed.  This has to be someone who believes in possibilities.

2 – Earth ~ Schedule your creative time.  Inspiration is a fleeting muse.  If you want to get things done, you need to give yourself the space and time to be creative and do NOT count on the heat of inspiration to carry you through every moment.  You will be amazed at what one to two hour increments can accomplish when you’re focused.  Don’t feel like you need to have a spare 8 hours!  And if you find yourself cancelling on your creative time?  Put $20 in a jar or have way to acknowledge that you owe yourself the space to create!

3 – Air ~Exposure.  Whether you have an artistic intent or want to branch out and create your own business, it’s important to come up for air.  Exposing yourself to other creative people by going to galleries, reading something new and yummy or getting out in nature will help you stay calibrated to creativity.  This point is not about taking more classes or getting lost in the thought that others are “further” along than you!  It’s about surrounding yourself in creative space even when you are not producing.

With an open mind and open heart for all of your dreams  ~
